Serhii Khlan: 50,000 hectares of agricultural lands cleared of mines in Kherson region
Farmers began to work on the land in the Ukraine-controlled part of Kherson region that has been cleared of mines.
In particular, 50,000 hectares of agricultural land have been demined, but another 450,000 hectares are considered mined, and working there is dangerous and prohibited.
Serhii Khlan, Deputy of the Kherson Oblast Council made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“First of all, mines are cleared of the land where farmers plan to grow vegetables. Because it is a priority and creates a large number of jobs,” he said.
In addition, Serhii Khlan pointed out that there is a big problem with the supply of water for irrigation.
“We understand that it is practically impossible to grow food, including vegetables, in the south without irrigation. Today, we need to consider the assistance to farmers who work in demined territories, including funds, seed material, and, accordingly, water supply.”
