russia illegally detains 29 civilian Ukrainian journalists – IMI

russia is currently holding 29 civilian Ukrainian journalists illegally, according to the Institute of Mass Information (IMI). Additionally, four Ukrainian journalists who were serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine are also being held unlawfully by russia.

This information was shared by Oksana Romaniuk, director of the IMI, during a press conference at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“We are aware of 29 civilian Ukrainian journalists who are being held illegally in russia. These individuals are being held hostage against international law. Furthermore, four of our colleagues who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine are also in illegal captivity in russia,” Romaniuk stated.

She also mentioned that since the beginning of the invasion, there have been around 20 cases of journalists being captured and later released after some time.

Romaniuk added that there are several dozen other cases involving journalists that remain undisclosed for security reasons.
