Retailers Suffer Greatly from Blackouts: One Day of Chain Shutdown Can Cost UAH 10 Million – European Business Association

Retailers are significantly affected by power cuts. But all sectors are interconnected, so it is important to support everyone. Anna Derevyanko, Executive Director of the European Business Association, made this report during the briefing at the Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“The retail sector is quite vulnerable in this regard. Especially retailers who sell perishables. Of course, they use generators, but these insane blackouts greatly affect their operational existence. One of the large chain representatives said that one day of the chain shutdown costs them UAH 10 million. This is quite a big test. I believe everyone really suffers. Under these conditions, everyone realized how interconnected we all are. If earlier it was thought that one sector is key, the rest are more secondary, now it is clear that when one falls, everyone falls. When and how quickly the domino reaction will work, it’s only a matter of time. Therefore, everyone should hold on and support everyone as much as possible,” Anna Derevyanko explained.
