Red danger level declared in a number of regions due to spring floods — Illia Perevozchykov

As a result of spring high water, the water level of the Dnipro river is raising rapidly, and the red and orange levels of danger have been declared.

Illia Perevozchykov, Head of the Hydrological Forecasts Department at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“The most difficult situation is now on the Dnipro. As a result of the spring high water, we are observing an active increase in the water level, in particular, the red and orange levels of danger have been declared in the following oblasts: Kyiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad and Zaporizhia regions,” he noted.

According to the representative of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, spring high water is also observed in Chernihiv oblast.

“It is worth noting that an orange level of danger has been declared in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, and a red level of danger, the highest possible, in Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions. The red danger level was also declared in the section of the Dnipro in Chernihiv region, which borders Belarus, due to spring high water,” he clarified.

In addition, Illia Perevozchykov noted that a yellow level of danger has been declared in Volyn and Rivne regions due to the rain floods.

In addition, he noted that as of the morning of April 18, flooding was recorded in Kyiv city and Kyiv region.

“Especially in Kyiv, our observers record the outflow of water to floodplains and riverside areas. There is flooding of Muromets and Trukhaniv islands, for example, as well as flooding of certain districts in Kyiv region, such as Boryspil, Vyshhorod, and Brovary districts.”
