Polish border blockades cost Ukraine UAH 8 billion in customs duties, businesses suffer over EUR 1.5 billion in financial losses

To date, Ukraine has lost about UAH 8 billion in customs duties, and business has lost more than EUR 1.5 billion due to the border blockades by Polish protesters.

Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“If we look at financial losses in the context of business and in the context of the state, then according to the Tax and Customs Policy Committee, the border blockades by the Poles caused  Ukraine to lose about UAH 8 billion in customs duties. If we look at business losses, then in November-December 2023, partly in January, our financial losses reach more than EUR 1.5 billion. That’s too much money, and it keeps adding up. Because, today, the cost of one day’s downtime for a carrier, in fact, reaches over EUR 200. This is just downtime, not to mention the lost contracts, the lost opportunity to sell products on time, the possible application of penalties to business as a result of untimely delivery of products – all this today falls on the shoulders of Ukrainian manufacturers, processors, and logistics companies,” said Denys Marchuk.
