Over the past two months, the occupiers detained 1043 people in the occupied territories – Eastern Human Rights Group

The invaders are looking for pro-Ukrainian people and trying to recruit them. This was stated by Vira Yastrebova, lawyer, director of the Shidna Pravozakhisna grupa (Eastern Human Rights Group), at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.

She noted that the occupiers have recently intensified the filtering of people in the temporarily occupied territories.

“In March-May 2023, 1043 people were detained. Arrests are carried out by the russian guard, which acts as a “Gestapo” – secret police. Filtration measures are also carried out by the Federal Security Service on the border of the russian Federation and occupied Ukraine, as well as by the military police of the russian Ministry of Defense at internal checkpoints. To imprison people who have not been filtered, the occupiers have created correctional centers where people are forced to perform forced labor, these centers are run by the Federal Penitentiary Service,” – the human rights activist noted.

She added that such filtration measures are aimed at finding pro-Ukrainian people who support Ukraine and watch Ukrainian news.

“The occupants have set up a system of denunciation of people who proclaim a position of support for Ukraine. Such people are detained, then the services “work” with them and try to recruit them,” – Yastrebova added.
