Over 460 thousand people can take refuge in Odesa shelters

A total of 353 protective structures of all forms of ownership are in operation in the city. Volodymyr Kharishchak, head of the civil protection division of the municipal security department of Odesa city council, said this at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.

“In total, there are 353 protective structures of all forms of ownership in the city, 85 of which are in municipal ownership. Over the past three months, we have managed to triple the capacity of the shelters, and now 460,000 people can take refuge in them,” – the official said.

He added that the city council’s priority is to provide shelters for educational institutions. At the moment, there are 110 operational shelters in such institutions, and repairs are underway in 57 more. However, most educational institutions are provided with the simplest shelters.

“This year, more than 325 million hryvnias have been allocated from the city budget for the repair of shelters in educational institutions this year. Another 40 million is allocated for the arrangement of shelters in municipal buildings,” – Volodymyr Kharishchak said.
