Over 10% of energy generation capacity has been lost following the shelling of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure – Oleksandr Kharchenko

The attack, which occurred on March 22, has left the high-voltage networks in a relatively stable condition, but the situation regarding generation is dire. The damage inflicted by the shelling has resulted in the destruction of 10%, a significant portion of our generating capacities.

Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Industry Research Center, stated this during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“When it comes to generation, the situation is grim. The damage sustained was substantial, resulting in the destruction of numerous generating capacities. We’ve seen a loss exceeding 10% of our available generation as of March 20. Unfortunately, swift restoration is unlikely. I fear that this segment won’t be fully restored even by the upcoming heating season,” he remarked.
