Only Ukraine’s resolve to fight united Europe and North America in 2022

Peter Van Praagh, President of the Halifax International Security Forum, made this statement during the Second Black Sea Security Conference.

“What’s happened now in the popular perception of that day and the immediate days that followed was that somehow russia’s decision to attack solidified and brought the allies from North America and Europe together to stand against russia. This is not true. The allies were divided on February 23, the allies were divided on February 24 and what brought the allies together was Ukraine’s resolve and response to russia’s attack,” he said.

Peter Van Praagh added that everyone who now enjoys justice, freedom and democracy owe their gratitude to Ukraine.

According to him, Ukraine gave the allies a certain sense of optimism, which motivated them to provide weapons and embark on the path of isolating the aggressor. Meanwhile, russia is working to convince the whole world that Ukraine cannot win.

Peter Van Praagh pointed out that everyone should understand what is happening now – this is a global war, where Ukraine is on the western front, Israel is on the southern front, and a frozen conflict in Taiwan. In his opinion, despite all internal political processes, allies must remain united.
