One third of Ukraine’s ecosystems is damaged, it has direct impact on the continent’s climate: half of European rivers may dry up – WWF-Ukraine

As one of the largest countries of the European continent, Ukraine directly affects climate change – and the situation can get significantly worse because of the war – Bohdan Vykhor, Executive Director at WWF-Ukraine made this statement during the briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“When it comes to the role the Ukraine’s natural ecosystems play in stabilizing climate change – wetlands, Ramsar sites no longer perform its ecosystem functions. As a result, this has a direct impact on the climate. Ukraine is one of the biggest European countries. The fact that a third of the country has been captured by military action, a third of the ecosystems are damaged, means that we will not be able to stabilize the climate of the continent next summer as well, half of the European rivers may dry up,” said Vykhor.
