On September 1, 2023, 641 schools will operate in the full-time format in Odesa region

This is 88% of them. This data was provided by Oleksandr Lonchak, director of the department of education and science of the Odesa regional military administration, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.

“Over 213 thousand students of the region, 78% of them, will have the opportunity to study in the traditional format. Among them there are 21,622 first-graders. Also almost 9,000 students who studied online while abroad have returned to the region’s educational institutions. There are still 40,286 people abroad. In addition, more than 6,500 IDPs have been enrolled in the region’s schools,” – Lonchak said.

He added that by the beginning of the school year, it is planned to carry out construction works at 185 educational institutions worth UAH 647 million.

“In 142 schools, it is necessary to carry out construction, reconstruction, overhaul of shelters or purchase quickly constructed civil defense facilities,” – the official added.

Oleksandr Lonchak also noted that the number of shelters in educational institutions in the region has increased.

“There are 139 shelters in universities and higher education institutions. There are 39 vocational education institutions, 451 shelters in schools, and 266 in kindergartens. At the same time, 50% of kindergartens in the region do not have premises that could accommodate shelters of various types,” – the official added.
