Occupiers’ release of water from Kakhovka Reservoir poses threats not only to nuclear safety, but also to ecology in region — Plachkov

The media reported that since the beginning of November last year, russian forces have been draining water from the Kakhovka Reservoir, and its water level is now the lowest it has been in several decades. Hryhorii Plachkov, Head of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation (2017–2021), made this statement at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“At the moment, there are alarming reports about the water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir. In order to cool the active zones of the reactor and the pools of the NPP, it is necessary to constantly feed the pools with water and constantly remove the residual heat from the active zones of the reactor. The release of water from the Kakhovka Reservoir poses not only threats to nuclear safety, but also to the ecological conditions in the region,” — Plachkov explained.
