No “peace plans” proposed by Türkiye, just ideas about establishing communication through Ankara’s mediation – Vasyl Bodnar
Türkiye’s traditional position on mediation remains unchanged, with no discussions of individual initiatives or “peace plans” despite the claims spread by the russian media.
Vasyl Bodnar, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“Türkiye’s traditional position on mediation remains unchanged. However this does not indicate separate initiatives or peace plans, as the russian mass media attempted to suggest a few months ago,” he emphasized.
He noted that the topic of the russo-Ukrainian war is always a focus of the dialogue between Erdoğan and putin. And the Turkish side is forming its approach to mediation.
“And we receive very conflicting signals from the aggressor country. Immediately after the meeting, there was a signal from peskov that Türkiye could not be a mediator. This week there were proposals to accept the “peace plan” put forward by Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan. However, Although in reality there are no “peace plans”. There are simply ideas about establishing communication through Ankara’s mediation. These proposals have been expressed publicly since the beginning of the war. These ideas were partially implemented during the negotiations in Istanbul, the grain agreements, the exchange of prisoners of war, and some other negotiation processes, where the Turkish side acts as a mediator. We can call it whatever we want, but Türkiye remains committed to this track, as it is one of the pillars of its foreign policy,” said Vasyl Bodnar.
He also added that the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a dedicated Mediation Department, which handles mediation services and provides consultations, assistance and other activities aimed at bringing parties’ positions closer.
