Liberation of Islands near Kherson City Helps Reduce Shelling on Our People and Infrastructure — Deputy Head of the Oblast Council

Two days ago, the Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated the Big Potemkin Island in the Kherson region. Yurii Sobolevskyi, First Deputy Head of Kherson Oblast Council, stated during the briefing at the Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform why de-occupation of the islands is essential now.

“If we are talking about the Big Potemkin Island, it is about 5 kilometers from it to Kherson city, within my memory. It is understood that the enemy can use it conveniently for their mortar positions. Therefore, our control over this territory means a decrease in the number of attacks on our civilian infrastructure, our people, first of all. But, in my personal opinion, although I am not a military expert, this is not a strategic direction for de-occupation operations now. It will be implemented in a different direction, as far as I can see what happens at the front right now,” Yurii Sobolevskyi reported.
