Issues of protecting victims’ rights often get neglected by authorities, but war changes this: there are signs of progress — ZMINA Human Rights Center

Experts of the Coalition of organizations dealing with the issues of protecting the rights of victims of armed aggression against Ukraine have prepared recommendations for 10 priority steps that the state needs to take in the field of human rights protection in the conditions of the great war in 2023. This was discussed in detail during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“We are presenting it today and today we will send it to People’s Deputies of Ukraine and to the address of the government. Last year, at the beginning of February, we presented a document in approximately the same format, and we can see that almost all recommendations remain relevant. Unfortunately, our reality is that the issues of protecting the rights of victims are often neglected by the government agencies. Oddly enough, it was the war that changed this. Now we see that numerous issues related to this agenda are either in the process of implementation, or we definitely understand that the authorities have some good will to participate in the implementation of these steps. There is some progress in certain steps. But we also consider it necessary to once again emphasize the significance of these decisions for the destinies of millions of our citizens. That is exactly why we are presenting this list,” — Aliona Luniova, Advocacy Manager at ZMINA Human Rights Center said.
