Incorporating gender policy in employment practices is labor market’s way out – Natalia Karbowska

According to official research data, the current labor market deficit stands at 4.5 million workers, and this trend is expected to persist for years. However, experts now recognize that incorporating gender policy into employment practices could help address this issue.

Natalia Karbowska, Co-Founder and Strategic Development Director, Ukrainian Women’s Fund, made this statement during a discussion at Media Center Ukraine.

“According to official research data, there is a shortage of 4.5 million workers in the labor market today, and this trend will continue for the next 10 years. Many researchers say, and entrepreneurs understand it themselves, that the lack of personnel is actually one of the main problems that hinders business development today. And more and more specialists are beginning to understand that incorporating gender policy into employment practices is a way out, this is the answer,” she said.

She also highlighted the importance of educational, training, and retraining programs for women. It is especially important to involve women in new non-traditional fields, such as green energy and new professions, such as truck drivers.

In addition, it is important to create a favorable infrastructure that would allow combining jobs with care and domestic work. In particular, this could involve kindergartens, daycare groups in schools, convenient schedules for women, and beneficial state programs.
