In order to return Crimean political prisoners, a powerful coalition of states must rally around one of the points of the peace plan – Olha Skrypnyk
As of now, none of the Crimean political prisoners have been released as part of prisoner exchanges, as there are no mechanisms for this. However, there is a need for proactive efforts to address this issue. One potential avenue is the formation of a coalition of states rallying around the Ukrainian President’s peace plan, specifically addressing the return of civilian hostages.
Olha Skrypnyk, Head of the Crimean Human Rights Group, made this statement during the discussion at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“We do not have any mechanism for their (Crimean political prisoners – Еd.) return as of today. And we believe that it is crucial to establish a robust coalition of states, focusing on one of Zelenskyy’s peace plan points related to the return of all civilians to Ukraine. Urgent action is essential, as these individuals are facing dire conditions in detention, particularly those abducted after 2022 who often have no opportunity to even communicate,” explained Olha Skrypnyk.
