Ukraine will grapple with persistent electricity shortages for the next two years

Despite potential repairs to energy infrastructure damaged by adversaries, the country’s overall electricity deficit is expected to persist.

Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Industry Research Center, made this prediction during a discussion at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“We’re facing a challenging situation with an obvious deficit in our generating capabilities.

Comparatively, when it comes to our high-voltage grids, things are notably better presently. By my estimates, the risks posed by power grid issues, particularly in the long term, are considerably lower than those stemming from generation challenges. Regrettably, addressing generation issues won’t be swift. Even if we make headway in repairing damage and restoring some power units shortly, I anticipate a sustained power shortfall for the next two years, becoming the new normal for the Ukrainian power system,” he stated.
