Due to the speculators desire for profit, Ukraine overpays at least $100 per ton of fuel from Europe, and the amount will reach more than $1 billion in a year — Serhii Kuiun

Traders, port operators, carriers, and other relevant companies are gaining a lot of money from Ukraine’s fuel needs. Serhii Kuiun, Director of A95 Consulting Group, made his opinion during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform. 

“We must clearly understand that we spend a significant amount of money on fuel in Europe. Whether someone likes it or not, each and every one cash in on us, including traders keeping the resource under control, port operators, and carriers. Prices had already declined quite significantly compared to the summer when consumption and demand from Ukraine reached their highest point, but these are huge losses. I estimate that we are currently overpaying at least $100 per ton, which is UAH 3 per liter. In general, this amount exceeds $1 billion for the year. This is just the money of speculators who have fuel in Europe and distribute it to us just because we depend on it and actually need this fuel,” Kuiun said.
