“Diplomas That Will Never Be Issued:” student casualties of russian full-scale invasion commemorated in Lviv
“Diplomas That Will Never Be Issued” is a social event organized by the Students’ Council of Lviv and Lviv City Council’s Office for Youth Policy in remembrance of the students who died due to the war. Dozens of diplomas that will never see their owners were displayed on Lviv’s Rynok Square. The event was held on International Youth Day. Stanislav Hvozdinskyi, Students’ Mayor of Lviv spoke about this at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“We collected forty diplomas. But this figure is far from accurate. This is a figure that we are aware of. These are diplomas belonging not only to the fallen students of Lviv higher education establishments, but also to students of higher education institutions from all over Ukraine. There are also diplomas of cities where universities have been destroyed. These are diplomas of hero cities where the fallen students and young people studied and lived,” — Stanislav Hvozdinskyi, Students’ Mayor of Lviv said.
“The Office for Youth Policy, together with the Students’ Council of Lviv, organized this event and collected the students’ diplomas which will never see their owners. I want to point out that the number of (fallen) young people is much larger. We singled out only students. Young people in Ukraine are young people aged 14 to 35 years. If one stops to think about it, one can only imagine the scale of the whole tragedy. In my opinion, if all the names of the dead young people were to be displayed on the city square, I think there would not be enough space,” — Rostyslav Yunyk, Head of Lviv’s Office for Youth Policy said.
