Denys Bashlyk: Mined areas are one of the current challenges for land reform

Today, explosive ordnance contamination is one of the challenges for Ukraine’s land market for stable operation. Cleaning up cost in some regions of Ukraine per land hectare can be three times higher than the cost of the land itself.

Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, made the relevant statement at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“In some regions, the demining of agricultural land cost per hectare is currently three times higher than the land value. For example, in the Kherson Oblast, the cost of mine clearance for a hectare of land is currently $1,100-1,200 at a conditional price of $400. We recognize the problem, and it is a challenge to overcome,” he said.

According to Denys Bashlyk, the government is actively addressing this problem, a national body for humanitarian demining has been established, and international funds and humanitarian aid are being attracted.
