Breakthrough of Ukrainian defense forces can be expected at any moment– British expert

Although, Ukrainian troops are fighting against a prepared enemy. This opinion was expressed by Glen Grant, retired British army lieutenant colonel, former Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.

In his opinion, the Ukrainian counteroffensive should not be discussed in the context of the speed of advancement, because the enemy’s defense lines are very well-prepared.

“The russians have well-trained brigades of soldiers on the defense, but they also have so-called mobilized soldiers. We hear them complaining in intercepts about the lack of weapons, ammunition, even food. It is through their positions that we can expect a breakthrough. Ukraine should take advantage of this opportunity. Break through the defenses, get to the rear of the Russian positions, and capture many prisoners. I think such a breakthrough can happen at any time, perhaps in the next 5–6 weeks,” – the expert said.

In addition, he noted that without air support, the offensive is 20–30 times more difficult, but even without the promised aircraft, Ukraine can concentrate on using drones and focus on a particular section of the front.

In the expert’s opinion, the fact that the Ukrainian counteroffensive forces are not sufficiently armed is partly the fault of officials of the allies and Ukraine.

“Western countries have not agreed on a common position on what kind of assistance to provide to Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is partly to blame. They were constantly giving new tasks to the allies. Give us tanks, give us airplanes. But wars are won by infantry, and in my opinion, they should have focused on strengthening infantry units and providing them with new equipment,” – the expert added.
