Ukrainian refugees: challenges and assistance from the UN

Topics of focus:

– What events are held to mark World Refugee Day in Ukraine? What is the central theme to this international day in 2023?
– Is the exact number of Ukrainian refugees in the world known?
– The war in Ukraine is one of the largest forced displacement crises in the history of the UN. What challenges did it bring to the UN and how did it affect the activities of the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine?
 – Assistance to Ukraine in solving the issue of restoration and reconstruction of housing – what kind of work does the UNHCR do in Ukraine to this end?

Why this is interesting:
World Refugee Day was declared by the UN General Assembly in 2000. Every year on June 20, the United Nations, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and civil societies around the world hold events to draw public attention to the millions of refugees and internally displaced persons who have been forced to flee their homes by war, conflicts and persecution.
Over 100 countries, including Ukraine, commemorate World Refugee Day.
