9 dead and 103 people injured from carbon monoxide poisoning of late

The number of people injured and dead from unintentional CO exposure or poisoning may actually be much higher, as some citizens avoid getting proper medical care from the relevant emergency medical services.

Serhii Huriev, Deputy Director of the Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Center of Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, made this report, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“Unfortunately, 103 people were injured and 9 died. This is just the tip of the iceberg because I think the figures are at least 100 times greater than the official report since people are reluctant to contact or delay contacting us with these issues,” he said.

According to Serhii Huriev, survivors of CO poisoning can find themselves suffering from permanent damage to their bodies, as carbon monoxide exposure can cause mental disorders related to brain hypoxia.
