13 people injured in Odesa region due to extreme weather conditions

In particular, 8 people sought medical help with signs of hypothermia, and 5 people were injured due to falling trees.

Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

According to him, the situation caused by unfavorable weather conditions was most difficult in Odesa region – there were large snow formations on the roads, in particular in the north and south of Odesa region. In some places, they reached 1.5 meters in height, and precisely because of this, many cars got into traffic jams and could not leave the snowy parts of the roads.

Oleksandr Khorunzhyy noted that personnel and equipment of the State Emergency Service were immediately dispatched to these areas. Representatives of the State Border Guard Service helped to organize the work of armored personnel carriers in certain areas.

He also noted that in Odesa, a certain number of heavy vehicles are now in dedicated parking zones to clear the road and evacuate cars and other vehicles.

The units of the State Emergency Service in Odesa region responded to 216 incidents, a total of 533 cars were towed away, including 15 buses and 12 ambulances.

The State Emergency Service also worked in Kirovohrad, Cherkasy and Mykolaiv oblasts. Oleksandr Khorunzhyy noted that a total of 1,215 rescuers and more than 330 units of emergency response equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences of adverse weather conditions.
