When the war ends, Ukraine is very welcome to MCM Black Sea – Turkish Foreign Ministry

Rear Admiral Refik Levent Tezcan, Deputy Director General for Defence and Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, made this statement during the Second Black Sea Security Conference.

“When the war ends, Ukraine is very welcome to this organization (MCM Black Sea initiative – Ed.). We will continue to support Ukraine and our other allies and partners in the Black Sea in this and different ways,” said Refik Levent Tezcan.

The Deputy Director General for Defence and Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye noted that the latest technologies, particularly sea drones, have become a decisive factor in the battle in the Black Sea as part of countering russian aggression. Therefore, control over the production of such drones is also very important. Such technologies in the wrong hands will threaten freedom of navigation and maritime safety in the region. Currently, the tactics used by Ukraine in the Black Sea have forced russia to somewhat curtail its destabilization efforts.

Rear Admiral Refik Levent Tezcan also noted that drifting mines remain a big problem in the Black Sea. Together with Bulgaria and Romania, Türkiye has established a working group that will make efforts aimed at demining the water area at the regional level.
