Yevhen Vasylenko: “200 rescuers and more than 50 pieces of equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences of the shelling of Kharkiv on January 23”

On January 29, Yevhen Vasylenko, the spokesman of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, spoke about the operational situation that developed in the Kharkiv region during the past week, from January 22 to 28.

During this period, the rescuers of the Kharkiv garrison made more than 140 trips under the “Alarm” signal, 33 of which were related to the conduct of hostilities. Another 35 times, employees of the SESU went to road accidents to help people. Five times assistance was provided to drivers caught in drifts, snowdrifts, or stuck on slippery road sections.

Over the past week, sappers of the State Emergency Service have neutralized and eliminated almost 170 explosive objects.

21 employees of the State Emergency Service and 38 units of equipment of the consolidated detachment of the SESU continued to inspect and demine the de-occupied and affected by the full-scale russian invasion territories of the Kharkiv region. Since the beginning of hostilities in Kharkiv Oblast in February 2022, they have surveyed more than four thousand hectares of territory, about three thousand kilometers of power lines, and discovered and neutralized more than 87.5 thousand ammunition and other dangerous objects.

In the period from January 22 to 28, the enemy continued mercilessly shelling the civilian infrastructure of Kharkiv and the region.

On January 23, the russian occupiers launched three rocket attacks on the city. High-rise residential buildings, an educational institution, and civil infrastructure were damaged. As a result of another terrorist attack by russians, 11 Kharkiv residents were killed and more than 60 were injured. As a result of the hits, several centers of fire arose. Firefighters rescued 27 people, and evacuated 16, including two children. 200 rescuers and more than fifty units of special equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences of shelling.

The villages of Velyka Rohan, where four people were injured, including a 17-year-old teenager, and Rozdolne of the Novopokrovsk community, as well as settlements of the Dergachi and Kupyansk communities, were also under enemy fire last week.

Over the past week, eight people have become victims of domestic fires that occurred due to violations of fire safety measures.
