While russia ramps up defenses around Crimean bridge, explosions rock its territory
russia intensifies efforts to protect the Crimean bridge with aviation support and numerous air defense systems, redeploying these resources from other regions to safeguard the contested structure.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy made this announcement speaking at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“russia is desperate to defend this so-called bridge, relying heavily on aviation and pulling air defense systems from other areas,” Pletenchuk explained. “While focusing on this illicit structure, we’re witnessing periodic interesting incidents, known in Ukraine as ‘bavovna’ [or ‘cotton’—a term popularly used to describe explosions actually caused by Ukrainian attacks on russia’s territories – Ed.]. These events are far from coincidental. Such air defense systems are rare, expensive, and vital at the front line, so when they move them to protect the bridge, it leaves other areas vulnerable.”
The Crimean bridge, a strategic and symbolic asset for Moscow, has become a focal point in the ongoing war. Pletenchuk noted that russia’s inability to secure the bridge from the sea has pushed it to bolster aerial defenses.
“They are doing everything they can to shield the so-called Crimean bridge,” he said. “Previously, it was guarded by over 10 ships, but now there are none. They’ve had to tighten access as much as possible, relying on aviation and extensive deployment of air defense systems to create a dense protective dome over the illegal structure.”
