Water hazards in fall and winter: 28 people die in Ukraine’s waters in November 2024
In November 2024 alone, 28 people lost their lives in water-related incidents across Ukraine. During the winter season of 2023-2024, the total death toll reached 134, including nine children.
This alarming data was revealed at a press conference held at Media Center Ukraine by Svitlana Vodolaha, Head of the Communication Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
“Unfortunately, I must emphasize that these figures only account for the winter period. Between December 2023 and the first two months of 2024, 134 people, including nine children, died in water-related accidents. Just in November of this year, 28 people drowned—thankfully, no children were among them. However, as the statistics show, the moment the first ice breaks, the number of fatalities in water or on the ice rises sharply,” Vodolaha said.
