Volumes of electricity imports from Europe going down due to increase in generation available in Ukrainian energy system — Kudrytskyi

Today, Ukraine imports much less electricity from European countries than it did a few days ago. Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Management Board of NPC Ukrenergo, explained why this is happening during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“Import (volumes) are melting before our eyes, because the available generation in the Ukrainian energy system is increasing before our eyes, Ukraine’s capability to produce electricity within the country is increasing. Ukrainian electricity is cheaper than European electricity, and therefore Ukrainian consumers have an incentive to abandon imports when domestic resources are sufficient. This is a natural process, there is nothing wrong with it. It is important that the possibility of import is always open, and this is a safety factor that can be used if necessary,” — Kudrytskyi said.
