Ukrzaliznytsia plans to gradually switch to narrow-gauge railway

Today, work is already underway on some sections of Ukrzaliznytsia in order to lay as much narrow-gauge railway track there as possible. The issue of a combined track with both a broad and a narrow gauge is also under consideration.

However, in general, the process of transition from a broad to a narrow gauge will take place gradually, as it requires a large amount of investment.

Oleksandra Vasylenko, Director of International Offices at PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia, made about this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“We are working on this issue together with our European partners and neighboring countries. In particular, this process with Poland is currently in a very active phase, we are discussing the sections of the railway, where this narrow gauge should be. And I think that this process will be very gradual, as it requires a large amount of investment – we are not talking about hundreds of millions, but billions,” Oleksandra Vasylenko explained.
