Ukrenergo addresses power unit outage at South Ukraine NPP from last week

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of NEC Ukrenergo, addressed the recent outage of power unit 2 at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant.

The issue was discussed during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Regrettably, due to martial law and ongoing enemy attacks, we are unable to publicly comment on specific energy facilities. We have always adhered to this principle and will continue to do so. Therefore, I can only mention that there is some official information available, including from the IAEA. I believe this suffices to conclude my response,” stated Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.

Last week, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that unit 2 at the South Ukraine NPP was shut down due to a transformer issue.

The IAEA reported that a short circuit damaged a ceramic insulator, causing an oil leak that ignited from an electric arc. The reactor was restarted and resumed electricity supply to the grid within 17 hours, reaching full capacity just over 24 hours after the shutdown.
