Ukrainian official confirms no initiative to lower conscription age below 25, Fedir Venislavskyi

In a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine, Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament’s Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, clarified that there is currently no basis for discussing lowering the conscription age below 25 in Ukraine.

Venislavskyi stated, “There are no initiatives at present, either from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the General Staff, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, or the Ministry of Defense, to change the conscription age for military service.”

While some international partners have suggested that the optimal age range for military service is 18-25 due to the physical and psychological attributes of individuals in this age group, Venislavskyi stressed that there is no movement within the Ukrainian government or military leadership to adopt this view.

He emphasized that both the legislative and executive branches, along with the President, have not proposed any changes to the current conscription policy.
