Ukraine takes part in such a large-scale mission for the first time, as 87 people and 16 pieces of heavy equipment were sent to Türkiye — Khorunzhyy
Earthquakes like the one experienced by Türkiye this year happen once every 100 years, and probably this was the first time Ukraine took part in such a large-scale mission. Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, made this statement at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“Immediately after receiving the request for assisting Türkiye, the State Emergency Service began mobilizing a combined unit to be sent to Türkiye. To implement the government’s decision, a combined search and rescue team of 87 people and 16 pieces of equipment was sent out. A part of the rescuers arrived by plane — 25 people and 2 canine teams, the other part — 52 rescuers, 8 canine teams and 16 pieces of equipment went by road on the route Kyiv — Odesa — Moldova — Bulgaria — Türkiye. The distance was about 3,000 kilometers. It was the first time Ukraine sent heavy and powerful special equipment to conduct search and rescue operations and clear debris,” — Khorunzhyy said.
