Ukraine secures release of 3,767 captives from russian detention: Ombudsman

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has successfully brought home 3,767 individuals held in russian captivity, including 168 civilians, according to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

Speaking at the Media Center Ukraine, Lubinets emphasized the collaborative efforts behind these returns. “To date, with the support of the Coordination Center and other involved agencies, we have managed to secure the release of 3,767 heroes and heroines from russian captivity,” he said.

Lubinets detailed that 168 of those released were civilians, while the remaining individuals were prisoners of war. He clarified that the release of prisoners of war was facilitated exclusively through exchange agreements.

Despite these efforts, Lubinets underscored the grim reality of the situation, noting that official records indicate tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, both civilian and military, remain in russian custody.
