Ukraine’s emergency services free more than 100 vehicles from snow drifts in a single day

Over the past 24 hours, crews from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service pulled 123 vehicles trapped by a brutal winter storm to safety across the Rivne, Volyn, and Kyiv regions. 

Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, announced the figure during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine. 

“We focused primarily on pulling large vehicles and ambulances,” Khorunzhiy said. “We’ve prepositioned the necessary equipment so we can step in and assist road services whenever there’s a direct threat to people’s lives.”

He added that emergency teams are also establishing warming stations along particularly hard-hit stretches of snow-choked road to provide shelter and relief for stranded drivers.
