Ukraine launches online course on how to safely navigate power outages

An online course called “Don’t Stand Still Switch On: Light, Heat, Internet” is now available to Ukrainians. The course is designed to help citizens safely and effectively power their homes during blackouts in the fall and winter months, reducing the risk of household emergencies.

The announcement was made during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

Alia Bondarenko, manager of the online educational platform “Zrozumilo!” (by the East Europe Foundation), explained that the course was developed in cooperation with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and is hosted on the “Zrozumilo!” online platform. It consists of eight lectures of up to 10 minutes each, accompanied by tests. Participants who complete the course receive a certificate.

In just three weeks, 18,000 people have taken the course, with 17,000 receiving certificates upon completion.

The course covers a variety of important topics related to various alternative power sources, such as charging stations, power banks and how to use them; candles, extension cords, burners and when to use them safely; ways to connect to the Internet to stay online; fire extinguishing equipment to have at home, etc.

The course is available at the link provided.
