Ukraine launches new initiative to support social adaptation for amputees: “I Did, So Can YOU”
Ukraine has introduced “I Did, So Can YOU,” a new project aimed at helping individuals with limb loss adjust to everyday life. This effort will provide a series of 12 video tips, a written guide, and podcasts featuring motivational stories and recovery journeys from people who have experienced injuries and amputations.
The project was presented at Media Center Ukraine, where organizers outlined its goals to assist veterans and civilians alike.
“With this project, our primary goal is to support as many veterans as possible who have lost limbs and are just beginning their journey. Many face daunting questions about how to live a life so drastically changed—some even question whether life is worth continuing when they can no longer do what they once could when they feel dependent on others,” emphasized Oleksandr Tereshchenko, the project founder. “We’re here to offer concrete guidance on taking small, steady steps toward independence and a fulfilling future.”
The initiative will include at least 12 video tutorials, where Tereshchenko, who is a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and an amputee, shares practical advice on performing daily tasks.
According to Oleksandr Tereshchenko, these resources will be valuable not only for those experiencing limb loss, but also for occupational therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and families who wish to support their loved ones on this path.
The video tips will be rolled out over the year, with the mission set to continue through August 2025. Distribution will occur via social media and other online platforms.
In addition to video content, the project will offer a text guide and a series of motivational podcasts. These resources are intended for people undergoing adaptation, as well as for their families and communities, offering insights into the experiences, challenges, and dreams of limb-difference individuals.
