Ukraine, Italy sign first-ever gender policy memorandum – Commissioner Levchenko
Ukraine and Italy have formalized their first bilateral agreement on gender policy, marking a new phase of intergovernmental cooperation. The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the Department for Equal Opportunities Policy under Italy’s Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Ukraine’s Government Commissioner for Gender Policy during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome.
Kateryna Levchenko, Ukraine’s Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, announced the signing during a press briefing at Media Center Ukraine, where officials outlined the key outcomes of the Rome conference.
“The Memorandum opened a new stage in intergovernmental collaboration focused on promoting gender equality and increasing women’s participation in political and economic life,” Levchenko said. “It outlines priority areas of cooperation that address current challenges in gender policy and reflect our shared commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development.”
Levchenko also noted that during the conference, Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development introduced a human capital sustainability charter grounded in gender equality principles.
She added that the European Union reaffirmed its continued support for Ukraine in advancing gender equality efforts: “We’ve made significant progress, and it’s crucial that these achievements are integrated into Ukraine’s recovery initiatives, both at the national and local levels. It’s important for us to continue advancing gender equality as a core part of the rebuilding process.”
