Ukraine is adopting U.S. expertise in the use of mobile devices for on-site disposal of explosive ordnance – Volodymyr Baida
The Ukrainian Center for Humanitarian Demining has begun working with the American company Golden West Humanitarian Foundation to adopt expertise in the disposal of explosive ordnance using both stationary and mobile systems.
Volodymyr Baida, director of the Humanitarian Demining Center under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, spoke about this at the Ukraine Media Center.
“The Ukrainian government has simplified the requirements for implementing such solutions (EOP disposal – ed.). We understand how widespread the theater of operations is today. In other words, a single facility in the western part of the country won’t solve the problem. Because logistics would be very expensive and dangerous,” he explained.
Volodymyr Baida emphasized that Ukraine is currently adopting the practice of disposing of unexploded ordnance (UXO) at the site of discovery.
“We hope to quickly acquire these mobile disposal technologies, as we understand that humanitarian demining will begin in earnest once hostilities end. All the stages we are currently going through in humanitarian demining are merely preparatory steps for the challenges we will face after the end of hostilities,” said the director of the Humanitarian Demining Center.
