Ukraine boosts family support with new childbirth benefits starting 2026

A new law took effect on January 1, introducing a significantly higher one-time cash payment for the birth of a child and rolling out additional family support measures. Liudmyla Shemelinets, First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, detailed the changes at a briefing hosted by the Media Center Ukraine.

“The one-time birth assistance now stands at 50,000 hryvnia, paid in a single lump sum. Parents whose children were born before January 1, 2026, and who had already received the initial 10,000 hryvnia installment from the previous total of 41,000 hryvnia, will continue receiving monthly payments of 860 hryvnia until the child turns three. For these families, the new law also provides an additional 7,000 hryvnia per month from January 1 until the child reaches one year of age, this new childcare assistance can be used specifically for child-related goods”, Liudmyla Shemelinets noted.

For parents of children who have reached age one, if the mother or father caring for the child returns to work, they qualify for the eYasla compensation program, which offers 8,000 hryvnia per month to cover early childcare services.

Uninsured women are also eligible for enhanced support during maternity leave and childbirth, receiving 7,000 hryvnia per month.
