This season, we plan to collect about 76 million tons of oilseed crops – Denys Marchuk
Despite the full-scale invasion and the inability to carry out a sowing campaign on 20% of the area, Ukrainian farmers manage to harvest their crops. In May, it was predicted that the figures would be lower than in 2022. However, this season, it may prove possible to harvest about 76 million tons of oilseed crops.
Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“In fact, this season we are aiming at an indicator of about 76 million tons of oilseed crops, which is quite a good result,” he noted.
According to him, as of today, more than 29 million tons of grain have been threshed in all the regions of Ukraine.
“The western regions of the country are still hard at work, because the harvesting campaign has slowed down a little due to the rains there. But in general, we are finished with early grain crops and soon the active phase of spring crops will begin.”
Denys Marchuk noted that sunflower harvesting has already begun in the south of the country and in the center of Ukraine.
“Today, the indicator per hectare is on average 1.8-1.9 tons, which is quite a good result. This means that in terms of oil crops, in principle, we will reach indicators no worse than last season,” he added.
Denys Marchuk also emphasized that, in general, under the conditions of war, it is possible to ascertain quite favorable factors in terms of crops, taking into account both food security within the country and foreign markets.
