There are increasingly more diplomatic demarches related to the war in Israel – expert

Countries and their governments are voicing their positions on the war in Israel. At the same time, there is a number of political démarches around this issue, in particular by the countries of the Global South, which are recalling their ambassadors from Israel.

Igor Semyvolos, Executive Director at the Association of Middle East Studies, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“It is clear that passions are raging around this conflict, there are increasingly more diplomatic démarches by the countries of the Global South, which are recalling their ambassadors from Israel. And, obviously, the loudest in all this passion is Türkiye’s position, which was communicated by President Erdoğan himself during a rally, and then it was voiced by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan,” the expert noted.

At the same time, Igor Semyvolos pointed out that the diplomatic tour that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has taken to the countries of the Middle East remains important in this context.

“The main task of this diplomatic tour is to support the coalition of moderate Arab countries, to prevent russia, China, and Iran, respectively, from gaining strength in the region. And the main thing, obviously, is the search for a solution to the issue of what will happen to Gaza after Hamas,” he explained.

Igor Semyvolos also noted that the European Union has already decided on its position: “Conventionally speaking, the three “no’s” are no to Hamas in Gaza, no to Israel in Gaza, and no to the blockade of Gaza.”
