“Ukraine Brought Back about 800 Defenders Since the Start of the All-out Invasion,” Defense Intelligence

Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Defense Intelligence, stated this at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“About 20 POW swaps have taken place after the start of the all-out invasion, with about 800 defenders of Ukraine brought back home. However, many still remain in captivity. The Coordinating Headquarters is now working on returning them,” he said.

Andrii Yusov emphasized that POWs of all categories, including commanding officers and women, were detained in horrible conditions. The first reason was that international organizations had not been granted access to detention facilities. Today, the Coordinating Headquarters and law enforcement agencies record all the violations.

“Improving conditions of the detention is a huge separate project. Ukraine insists on it, but it is so hard to discuss it with russia as a totalitarian state. So everything is recorded, and the information is transmitted to international institutions to elicit an appropriate response,” the Defense Intelligence representative said.
