Slovakia is ready to transfer the MiG-29 to Ukraine – this is now the priority of the government of the republic
Slovakia is also ready to train Ukrainian pilots when American F-16 fighters arrive in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Jaroslav Naď, the minister of defense of Slovakia told this, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.
“Since 1st of October 2022, Slovakia no longer uses the MiG-29. We are ready to transfer these planes to Ukraine so that it can defend itself, and we are not going to transfer them to anyone else. Now the issue of the transfer of these planes is being considered by the Slovak government,” the official said.
He also added that the Slovak Air Force is ready to train Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16, but they have not yet arrived from the USA.
“We will gladly provide this training, but now the priority for us is to transfer the MiG-29 to Ukraine,” Jaroslav Naď added.
The minister also added that the republic does not expect any compensation from the russian MiG-29 aircraft manufacturing company, which unilaterally recalled its specialists from Slovakia when the russian government recognized Slovakia as an “unfriendly state”.
“There are certain open questions between the parties to each other, and we do not expect compensation from the russian federation, that would be strange. However, we are even glad that our pilots will not fly on planes that were serviced by the Russians during the war,” the Minister of Defense added.
