It Is Confirmed That More Than 12,000 Ukrainian Children Are in Russia, About 8,600 of Them Are Forcibly Deported — Ombudsman

The Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights verified that more than 12,000 Ukrainian children are on the territory of the russian federation, of which about 8,600 were forcibly taken to russia. Dmytro Lubinets, Ombudsman of Ukraine, told this during the briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“We have verified the number of children amounting to more than 12,000, about 8,600 of which were forcibly deported to the territory of russian federation. The figures may differ from what you can see in the public spotlight: “about 150,000 Ukrainian children are on the territory of the russian federation.” As an Ombudsman, together with law enforcement agencies, with the Prosecutor’s General Office, we know where a particular child was deported from, where and in what status he/she lived on the territory of Ukraine, where he/she is now on the territory of the russian federation, in what status, what actions are carried out against him/her by russian authorities. We open criminal proceedings for each case. I can only talk about verified and confirmed figures. We can assume that at some point the figures that are available in the public spotlight and those verified will match. But this is all the time and this is the work that we are doing,” the Ombudsman said.
