Steel production in Ukraine increased since the beginning of the year – President of the Union of Metallurgists and Miners of Ukraine
Since the beginning of the year, steel production in Ukraine has shown some growth, partly due to the opening of the sea corridor.
This was stated by Oleksandr Kalenkov, President of the Union of Metallurgists and Miners of Ukraine, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Last year, our companies showed some growth. However, it’s important to note that this growth is relative to a very low baseline from the first half of 2023, when the sea corridor was not operational and we faced significant challenges. The sea corridor opened in August and became more or less functional by the end of the year. And now, since the beginning of the year, we’ve seen some improvement in production numbers, but they are declining and this trend is likely to continue. The only potential increase we can make is from 6.2 to 7.2-7.3 million tons. This is not much, and it is largely due to the operational sea corridor,” he said.
