State and publishers must support Ukrainians’ interest in reading in every possible way
According to the reading survey, which ended in October 2023, the number of citizens who read daily has increased from 8% to 17% over the past two years. Such a positive indicator and growth must be constantly maintained.
Oleksandra Koval, Director of the Ukrainian Book Institute, made this statement during a briefing on the start of the National Reading Week – 2023 at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“This means that publishers must increase the number and quality of their offers, it means that the state must support these publishers’ efforts in every possible way – help them financially, help bookstores to distribute these books and create comfortable working conditions for them. This means that the state must support customers’ ability to buy books by providing financial assistance to citizens for their purchase. All this will allow Ukrainian book publishing to get out of the crisis and get on the path of revival and development,” stressed Oleksandra Koval.
