Since the start of the year, over 8,500 household fires have been reported, largely linked to misuse of the power generators and backup power source use
Since the beginning of the year, residential structure fires have surged, accounting for more than 8,500 incidents. This increase is primarily due to the widespread use of backup power and generator solutions.
It was highlighted by Anatolii Shkarbuta, Deputy Head of the Prevention Unit at the Fire Safety Office of the Emergencies Prevention Department, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“Since the enemy started targeting civilians and critical infrastructure, an increased use of power generators and backup power sources has become the leading cause of the sharp rise in the number of fires in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the year, there have been over 8,500 home fires, as residential areas are the ones to be hit the hardest. These fires have caused more than UAH 4 billion in damage, with over 550 fatalities and about 500 injuries, including 38 children,” said Anatolii Shkarbuta.
He noted that since the beginning of the year, over 26,000 fires have occurred outside the residential sector. These fires arise from various causes, with one of the main reasons being the improper use of electrical equipment.
