Since the beginning of 2025, 142 people have drowned in Ukraine, which is a 13.6% increase compared to the same period last year, when 125 water-related deaths were recorded.
This was reported by Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, spokesman for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“The highest number of tragic incidents occurs during the transition period between cold and warm seasons. It is during this period that we see an increase in the number of victims. Since the beginning of 2025, 142 people, including 11 children, have drowned. By comparison, in 2024, 125 deaths were recorded, including 9 children. This indicates an increase in deaths compared to the previous year,” he said.
At the same time, Khorunzhyi noted that 130 people, including 32 children, have been rescued since the beginning of the year.
